Margaret Shockley Stewart

She was preceded in death by her parents- Vernon and Margaret Shockley, sisters- Martha Timmons and Ruth Overcash and her husband, Bill of 50 years.

She was a graduate of old Harding High school and an active member of the alumni. After graduation, she worked at Travelers Insurance and Dupont as an executive secretary.

Bill and Margaret were married in May of 1960, and resided in Coulwood for the remainder of their lives. Bill was able to grant Margaret's request to stay home and raise the children, Karen and Tim. She took care of all 3 grandchildren, as only a "grandmother" could, Zac, Ivan and Max.

Bill and Margaret were active at Durham Memorial Baptist church for over 40 years, Bill was in the Oasis Drum and Bugle Corp so Margaret stayed busy helping with any mailings and paperwork needed for the Drum and Bugle Corp, Jester's and SASA. They loved to travel and beach trips with the family. Margaret was the church recorder for years, her short hand was put to good use.

Margaret was known as a Bible Scholar without ever going to seminary.

Her passion for Bible study and teaching was unmatched. She started teaching Sunday School when she was 18 years old at Garr Memorial. She taught at Durham Memorial Baptist to most all adult ages through the years. Her Ladies Bible classes were the most special. Sharing her knowledge of the scriptures and ability to teach was applied at Durham Memorial Baptist Church, Christ United Methodist Church, Paw Creek Presbyterian Church on Sunday morning,or at women's retreats, luncheons, circle meeting, Vacation bible school, Forest Point Small group, Thursday morning Ladies Bible Study, softball devotions, Thrift Methodist seniors lunch, Best Years Club, several family funerals and Sunday night Bible study. One look at her Bible and you understand why every page has notes and markings.

She was a prayer warrior for anyone that shared a need, most of the time, making notes on her prayer list which were many and always close by. She had a kind and sweet spirit and ability to prove a point without harshness or anger. There was always humor involved every time she taught. She was recently presented with an Honorary Certification of Ordinance as a Deacon at Durham Memorial.

Some very special ladies provided love and care for Margaret over the last 4 1/2 years, Debbie , Mara and Lisa were her" Angels". Karen Auten, Barbie, April, Mary Ann, Sierra, Brenda, Tiffany plus several more provided companionship, meals and love during this journey.

The Thursday morning Ladies Bible study, where she taught for over 10 years, continued to meet at her house one week before her passing, to be together, share some stories and laughter.

She is survived by her daughter, Karen Baucom and husband, Mike and their son, Zac; Son, Tim Stewart and his wife, Tiffany and their children: Ivan and Max.

In lieu of flowers. please give to your favorite charity. Listed are some of Margaret's favorites - Shriners Hospital of Greenville, Durham Memorial Baptist Church and Samaritan's Purse. She loved to support charities.

A private burial will be at Sharon Memorial. The service to celebrate her life will be at Catawba Height Baptist Church, 311 Belmont-Mt. Holly Rd, Belmont NC, on Saturday, the 22nd of August, 2026 at 12 Noon with a time to fellowship at the meal to follow for everyone.
