Margie Ree Bellamy Wylie of Charlotte, North Carolina passed away peacefully at home at the age of 95 on July 3, 2026. She was born June 8, 1931, to Leon and Ruby Bellamy in Conway, SC. Margie grew up in Murrells Inlet, SC and graduated from Myrtle Beach High School. She attended Winthrop College where she took business and dance courses and then moved to Charlotte, NC where she began working at IBM. In 1952 she met and married her beloved husband James G. Wylie, Jr., a marriage that lasted 74 years.
Margie was actively involved in both church and community activities her entire life. In 1960, she joined Providence Baptist Church, where she served on numerous committees to provide service to the members and the Charlotte community. She loved her Sunday School class and was fully invested in helping in any way she could, often cooking meals and gathering clothing for people in need. She continued her outreach and involvement in the community through her membership in the Junior Women’s Club, volunteer work at the Orthopedic Hospital, hosting her neighborhood bridge and garden clubs, and playing competitive tennis for the Windyrush team for Queen City.
Margie was an exceptional seamstress and loved sewing for her children and grandchildren. She was a natural interior designer, creating and decorating many rooms in her friends and families’ homes. She always had an eye for color, beauty and detail and loved sharing this gift. Margie was a voracious reader, an exceptional cook, loved to travel and always looked forward to the yearly beach trips with her entire family. To Margie, her family and church were her center. They came first. She was an incredibly generous wife, sister, mother, grandmother and friend, never forgetting a birthday or anniversary, and always ready for visitors. Everyone who met Margie was struck by her easy smile, her openness and deep generosity that lasted until her final days. She was an incredible example of how to live life gracefully, with kindness and love. All that knew her will miss her big heart.
She is survived by her daughters Deborah Koenig, Teressa McWilliams, Kimberly Wylie and son, James Philip Wylie. She is the proud Grandma of seven grandchildren: Elyse and Tess Koenig, Lindsay McWilliams, Olivia and Marley McMahon, Arwen and James Nolan Wylie. Tess Koenig and her husband Daniel are the parents of Margie’s great grandson, Davis Armstrong de la Nuez. Her sons-in law are Chet Koenig, Richard McWilliams, and Steve McMahon. She is survived by her sisters, Kay Westbury, Judy Holland and her brothers, Raymond Bellamy and Kenneth Bellamy. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ruby and Leon Bellamy and her husband, James G. Wylie, Jr.
