Marie was born on Sept 26th in Brooklyn, NY. She earned her nursing degree from St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Brooklyn, and devoted 53 years to caring for others with compassion and kindness.
After moving to South Carolina in 1986, she worked in labor and delivery at Piedmont Medical Center for 18 years before continuing her career with Palmetto Health until retirement. In retirement, she volunteered at local food banks and the Italian Community Center in Columbia, where her warmth and generosity touched many lives.
Marie is survived by her former husband, Val F. Marz Sr., and their children: Val F. Marz Jr. (Leah), Jeffrey Marz (Salena), and Francine Marz (Diane); her beloved grandchildren, Andrew Marz, Lauren Marz and Isabella Marz; her brother, Peter Mazzoni (Daria) of Spring Hill, Florida; and her sister, Carol McNally of Hardyston, New Jersey.
We welcome family and friends to join us on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at St. Gabriel Catholic Church for visitation beginning at 10:00 AM, followed immediately by a Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Marie’s life. Marie’s final resting place will be concluded in a private ceremony at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Marie's memory to the Alzheimer's Association or the Dementia Society of America.
