Marillyn Malinda Aiken Hayes, age 87, went home to be with her Savior on May 9, 2020 with her beloved husband by her side.

Marillyn was born May 22, 1932 in Greenville, SC to the late Robert and Roberta Aiken. She was a loving wife and mother who cared for her family deeply. She married “Jimmie” on July 7, 1951 and stood by him during his college years at Clemson University and during his time in the Army. She was mother to 3, grandmother to 8 and great grandmother to 13. She was very active in her church, First Baptist Church of Matthews N.C. She was an avid bridge player and was very competitive. She enjoyed reading Christian novels and would often read 2 to 3 a week. She loved working in the yard while she was still able, and had quite the green thumb. She planted flowers, trimmed bushes, and cut grass. She was so proud of her azaleas and dogwoods and was a true southern bell. But what she loved the most, next to her Lord, was her husband and her family. Nothing made her happier than being with them. She relished every second.

Mrs. Hayes is survived by her husband (just shy of) 69 years, Jim Hayes; son, Chris Hayes and his wife Deb; daughter, Pam Vanderburg and her husband Chuck; daughter Kelley Camilo; grandchildren, Travis Hayes, Russell Hayes, Jessie Hayes, Tiffany Vanderburg Moncrief, Justin Vanderburg and his wife Noelle, Bailey Vanderburg, Jamie Camilo, and his wife Kalee, and Taylor Camilo Jones, great-grandchildren, Avery, Chandler, Ethan, Piper, Gavin, Phoenix, Tristan, Hayes, Avalyn, Malinda, Parker, Cru and Aspen, brother Jerry Aiken, brother Ralph Aiken and his wife Barbara and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her mother and father in law Grady and Flora Hayes, her sister in law Arline Aiken, nephew Robbin Aiken and her son in law Rocky Camilo, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

There will be a graveside service at McEwen Sharon Memorial Park 5716 Monroe Road Charlotte, NC 28212 Thursday May 14, 2020. Unfortunately, and as much as we hate it, due to COVID-19 there is a limit to the amount of people allowed so the service will be private (family only). A memorial service will be held to honor this sweet, amazing woman at a later date of which will be announced as soon as the restrictions are lifted. We hope all those that knew and loved Marillyn will join us then as we celebrate a life well lived.

The family requests that memorial contributions be sent to First Baptist Church of Matthews or Visiting Angels.

Jim, we want to let you know that we share your grief with the loss of this beautiful lady. She was a true treasure. It was always a pleasure to photograph her, and I thought that I would share this one with you.

You were always such a sweet couple and dear friends. Remembering all the great times in Gatlinburg while Don my husband and Jim served on the Board of Directors. We shared many meals together and Maryllyn always had a big smile on her face. The love for her husband was always so apparent when she was with him. She will be missed by her family and friends.

I'm so happy I got to spend some time with Marilyn while visiting Chuck in the hospital. She seemed ageless to me. Such a beautiful lady. You are all in my prayers.

Marillyn was a lovely, Christian, Lady. I valued her opinion though she never gave it unless asked. The Hayes family are all as sweet and lovely as she, and it’s been my good fortune to know them over the last few decades.
Till we meet again, dear one
💓🙏 For you all.
