Born in Greenville, SC, Mickey was a proud veteran of the US Army and proudly served two tours in the Vietnam War.
Mickey is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Elizabeth. Also surviving are daughter, Kelley Pettus and son, Scott (Brittany) and two grandchildren, Ashley Pettus and Harrison Lawson.
Mickey was devoted members of Dixieland Cruisers of Rock Hill and the Steele Creek Masonic Lodge in Charlotte. He spent countless hours at car shows as a Regional Official for the National Street Rod Association (NSRA) traveling with his numerous street rods such as his red 1933 Buick to National events. He also served his brothers he cared for deeply as the past Master of the lodge.
Simply put, Mickey loved all cars in all forms and got involved any way he could.
He worked or was involved with many companies and organizations including: being a co-owner of a drag racing team, owner of a NASCAR truck team, holding the titles of 1995 BF Goodrich Champion and 1996 Dixie-Kroger Champion of Legends Cars Racing, working for the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) as an official for many years, and he had many personal cars and you could always find him out in the garage with his friends hanging out working on them.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, 13110 Moss Rd, Charlotte, NC at 11:00 am on Thursday, August 2, 2018. Family will receive friends before the service at 10 am.
The family would like to thank the Adult Enrichment Center of Fort Mill and White Oak Manor of York for the loving care they provided.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.McEwenPinevilleChapel.com for the Lawson family.
