Marjorie Anne was born July 19,th 1931, in Ecru, MS. She was the daughter of the late Robert E. Fields and Cyrena A. Fields. She graduated from Pontotoc High School, and then attended and graduated from Mississippi Southern College where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English.
Anne proudly enlisted as an Airman 1st class in the United States Air Force in 1954, and was assigned to Warren AFB, Wyoming. She was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in 1957, and assigned to McGuire AFB, New Jersey. She then met and married the love of her life Arthur L. Sclater, Jr. in 1959. She left the Air Force in 1960 and began a life devoted to and poured into serving her husband and family as it grew. After her husband’s retirement from the Air Force in 1976, the family moved to Mobile, Alabama to settle. Anne also faithfully volunteered for many years at Providence Hospital in Mobile, always serving cheerfully and with joy.
Anne was an excellent and experienced cook who enjoyed serving simple fare but could also just as easily create complex Asian dishes, all of which her family greatly savored and which provided wonderful family memories. Anne also shared her love of and talent for cooking with her son, daughter and daughter in law for which they are most grateful. She was an avid reader of mystery novels and any books on food. She also enjoyed working in her vegetable garden, recalling a modest but happy farm childhood. Anne and her husband loved animals and took in many strays and cared for the local wildlife including rabbits, raccoons and possums. She and her husband were especially fond of their cats.
Anne and her husband, Art, resided in Mobile for 35 years and relocated to Charlotte, NC in September of 2011. She is predeceased by her husband Arthur L. Sclater, Jr. in 2011. She is survived by her daughter Laura A. Sclater of Charlotte, son John R. Sclater of Columbia, SC, daughter-in-law Elizabeth W. Sclater, grandchildren, Graham Callum, Eliza Grace and Joshua Graydon of Columbia, and brother Lewayne Fields of Texas and her sister Joyce Jones of Texas.
Anne loved people and was always happiest while in the companionship of her friends and family. Her kind, sweet and gentle spirit will be greatly missed until we meet her again in heaven.
She lived her life humbly, simply, selflessly devoted to those around her, never grumbling or complaining but content in every circumstance – this is her beautiful Legacy that remains with us.
