

Born September 14, 1961 in Akron, Ohio, he was a son of the late Peggy Paterno. He worked at General Tire for 25 years. After General Tire shut down, he went back to school at Central Piedmont Community College where he majored in HVAC. Shortly after graduating, he began teaching for CPCC, becoming the Head Supervisor for his department until his passing.
The joy of Mark’s life was his family. He adored his wife, Ellie Paterno, whom he married September 27, 1986. He was also a devoted father and grandfather “Papi” who attended all school and sports events as their biggest fan. He was an excellent fisherman who loved the Outer Banks.
Mark is survived by his wife of 35 years, Ellie Paterno; three children, Milissa Myers, John Devine and Kristina Hoffman; and six grandchildren, Hayleigh, Hannah and Hayden Hoffman, Gabriel and Elijah Myers, Grace Campbell; as well as his father, Mark Paterno and two sisters, Marlene Osborne, Melanie Bryant; niece, Kara Carter; nephew Matthew Paterno; and great-niece, Kaylee Revell.
A visitation for Mark will be held Thursday, February 10, 2022 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at McEwen Funeral Service-Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Road, Charlotte, NC 28210.
A funeral service will occur Friday, February 11, 2022 from 10:15 AM to 11:00 AM at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 6828 Old Reid Road, Charlotte, NC 28210.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to Levine Cancer Institute of Charlotte.
