

Martha Bookout, 62, of Charlotte, passed away, surrounded by family, on October 24, 2017. She was born and raised in Hendersonville, NC, the daughter of Patrick and Etholeen Gallagher. She moved to Charlotte in 1975 to finish her education at UNC-Charlotte, from which she graduated in 1977 with a degree in Business. She worked in insurance for 13 years, then became a stay-at-home mom before eventually going back to work in 2005 as a Teacher Assistant at Hawk Ridge Elementary. She was a parishioner at Saint Matthew Catholic Church, where she was active in several ministries, including the Angel Tree Project, which she founded and was the head of for over 20 years. She was also a tutor, a volunteer, a die-hard Panthers fan, and a devoted friend and mentor to many. Her favorite place in the world was the beach at Oak Island.
Martha is survived by her husband of 35 years, David; her daughters, Leigh Ann (Tyler) and Lindsay; her grandsons, JEP and James; her beloved dogs, Tank and Roxie; her sisters, Emily (Rolland) and Mary (Byron); her brother, Patrick (Julie); her nieces, Sarah (Matt) and Jennifer; her nephews, George (Allison), Kevin (Kerry Ann), Sean, and Mitchell; her mother, Etholeen; as well as numerous grand-nieces, grand-nephews, and cousins who all loved her very much.
Martha is predeceased by her father, Patrick.
The family will receive visitors at their home on Thursday, Oct. 26 from 6p.m. to 9 p.m.
The funeral mass will be at 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 27 at St. Matthew with the burial following at Sharon Memorial Park.
Donations may be made in her memory to the Angel Tree at St. Matthew’s.
