Martha Ann Foard Darsey

Martha Ann Foard Darsey, 91, died May 24, 2016, in her residence at Brookdale Carriage Club Providence, Charlotte, NC. Mrs. Darsey was born June 24, 1924, in Charlotte to Mary Belle McCall and Ernest Clifford Foard. Having earned a business certificate at Lenoir-Rhyne College (now University) in 1943, she moved with several of her friends to Atlanta, where she worked for DuPont. There, she met and married in 1949 her husband and father of her children, John A. Darsey Sr. of Sunny Side, Georgia. Upon returning to Charlotte, Mrs. Darsey had a career as a bookkeeper.

Among her joys were cooking, antique shopping, hosting family gatherings, and annual trips to the beach, where she loved viewing the ocean, walking the beach, taking boat trips, and sharing time with her family. Her principal joy was her children, to whom she gave life-long, loving devotion.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Darsey is preceded in death by her brothers Clifford and Kenneth Foard. She is survived by her brother Richard Foard (Joan) of Charlotte; sister-in-law Bert Springett of Murrells Inlet, SC ; sons John A. Darsey Jr. (Nancy) of Waxhaw, NC, Steven F. Darsey of Atlanta, GA, D. Michael Darsey (Cathy Stone) of Pickens, SC; daughter Sally Darsey Lingle (Jeff) of Rock Hill, SC; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was a member of Hawthorne Lane United Methodist Church, Charlotte, NC.

Visitation will be Tuesday, May 31 from 6:00-8:00 PM at McEwen Funeral Services, 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte. A private burial will take place at Sharon Memorial Park. A Service of Remembrance will be on Wednesday, June 1, 11:00 AM at Hawthorne Lane UMC, 501 Hawthorne LN, Charlotte, NC 28204.
