Marvin spent his childhood in the family home in Fruitland, Iowa, a village in the midst of a truck farming community. He learned the value of hard work hoeing and setting irrigation pipe in the melon fields famous in the area. People in southeast Iowa would look forward to the crop of cantaloupe and watermelons each summer.
He was a product of the local one-room country school which served him well. Marvin attended Muscatine Junior College, receiving his B.S. degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Iowa in 1962. He enjoyed a successful career in the power generation arena, particularly serving industrial clients and several military installations. These projects took him to all 50 states and many foreign countries.
Marvin met his wife Rana on a blind date arranged by his classmate at Muscatine Junior College, and it was love at first sight. They were married a year and a half later, and together they saw him through to his college graduation. Marvin dearly loved his family, and when son Dean was born he was so proud and happy.
The family relocated to the Charlotte area in the summer of 1984. It is here he completed his engineering career and began his life of retirement. He loved cars and their restoration and photography and was forever busy enjoying these things and helping others.
Marvin was a man of deep faith in the Lord Jesus and was passionately involved in his local church. He was deeply committed to the Good News Club sponsored by Pleasant Valley Baptist Church at the Indian Land Elementary School. He was faithful each week to attend the Club and provided expertise in the area of the audio/visual needs during Club time.
Marvin was preceded in death by his infant brother Robert Wayne Jamison. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Rana Louise Jamison; son Dean Allen (Jenniffer) Jamison; grandchildren Kathryne, John and Elyse of Mooresville, NC; and sister Laura Mae Longley of Davenport, IA.
