Mary “Carolyn” Broadwell, age 80 went to her home in Heaven early Saturday morning with her loved ones by her side. She leaves behind a legacy of unconditional love, generosity, and faithful service to her family, her community, and her Lord as a member of The Church of the New Beginning.
Carolyn was born July 1, 1945 to T. C. Keeffe (Virgina) and Inez Lear Deese. While she was famous for her homemade poundcakes, homegrown tomatoes, shag dancing, blaring Tina Turner, and baking the finest biscuits in all of South Carolina, she will be remembered most for unconditional love, kindness and unwavering strength.
Even as a single mother, working multiple jobs and late nights to make ends meet, Carolyn never missed an opportunity to serve those in need. Whether it was opening her home to both people and animals alike, Carolyn gave her time, money, energy, and spirit with an open heart and a wide smile.
Known affectionately as “Maw Maw” by almost all who knew her, Carolyn was cherished by her family, her friends, and her community. She believed in hard work, good food, regular belly laughs, and slow mornings on the porch––reading her bible and watching the hummingbirds.
Carolyn will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her. But there is no doubt in their hearts that she is at home, rejoicing with her Creator, and hearing the sweet words, “Well done my good and faithful servant.” (Matthew 25:21)
She is survived by her husband Kenneth Arthur, her loving children Tina McCarver (Scott) and TJ Broadwell (Cathy); grandchildren Ashton Gillis (Austin), Braden McCarver (Taylor), Jordan McCarver, Brannon Broadwell, Tristan Broadwell, James Boone, and Matthew Boone, and great grandsons Wyatt McCarver and Connor Boone; along with siblings Terry Keeffe (Jackie), Debbie Keeffe, and Linda Griffin (Stan).
The family will receive friends at McEwen Funeral Service - Pineville Chapel on Tuesday, January 6th, 2025 from 6pm to 8pm. A service celebrating Carolyn’s life will be at the McEwen Chapel with Pastor Chris Fisher officiating on Wednesday, January 7th, 2025 at 2pm.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Peanut's Place Rescue (www.peanutsplacerescue.org), a rescue organization that was close to Carolyn's heart.
