

Mary Ann Burnett age 82, of Charlotte, North, passed away on July 5, 2026. She was born in Mecklenburg County in Good Samaritan Hospital. She was referred to as Ann by her family and friends. Her parents were the late Marion and Maggie (Blake) Johnson of York County South Carolina. Ann was the fifth of eight children of Marion and Maggie.
Ann attended Sterling elementary and York Road High School. She went to nursing school in New York and obtained a master’s degree in psychology. It was in New York where she met and married Eugene “Gene” Weldon Burnett. Ann and Gene lived a beautiful, lavished life in Fresh Meadows, New York until Gene retired and they returned to Charlotte, NC.
Ann will be remembered for her warmth, quiet strength, love of jazz music, cooking, knitting, and literature. She was a passionate sports fan and particularly loved the New York Mets and Knicks. Her devotion to her family was most important in her life. As she often showered her family with gifts and cards for every occasion. She is survived by her sisters, Edna Cousart of Stafford, VA and Betty Johnson, of Charlotte, NC. Ann has several nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.
Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Weldon Burnett; mother and father, Marion and Maggie Johnson; brothers, Manny Lee Johnson (Cleola), John Edward Johnson (Francine), Willie Marion Johnson (Janette, David Johnson (Margret); and sister, Emma Jane Johnson.
Visitation will be held at McEwen Funeral Service Inc., 10500 Park Road, Charlotte, NC 28210, US, on July 12, 2026, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am. The Funeral Service will take place at 11:00 am, followed by a Repass at 12:00 pm.
