Mary Hancock Melton

It is with great sadness that the family of Mary Hancock Melton of Charlotte, NC announces Mary's passing on February 24, 2025 at the age of 93. Mary was born January 6, 1932 in Gastonia, NC, daughter of Martin L. and Freida Terry Hancock.

She was predeceased by her parents and her husband, Robert A. Melton, Sr.; a brother, Martin "Sonny" L. Hancock, Jr.; and her sisters, Carolyn H. Brotherton and Frieda H. Grice.

She is survived and lovingly remembered by her sons, Robert "Bobby" A. Melton, Jr. and Lewis "Eddie" Edward Melton and their families. Mary is also survived by her beloved brother, Stan Hancock and his wife, Peggy; nieces and nephews and many dear close friends, some with whom she graduated from Harding High School in Charlotte, class of 1950; and some with whom she worked for 30 years at Hoechst Celanese Corporation in Charlotte.

A service to celebrate Mary's life will be held for friends and family in the chapel of McEwen Funerals and Cremations at Forest Lawn West, 4601 Freedom Drive, Charlotte, NC, Saturday, March 1, 2025 at 11:00 AM. Visitation 10:00 AM until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial in Forest Lawn West Cemetery. Condolences may be submitted at www.forestlawnwest.com.
