
Mr. Cook was born May 19, 1925 in Charlotte, NC in what was then the Sharon community in South Charlotte, now known as SouthPark. He was the son of the late Thomas M. Cook and Pauline Rea Cook.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 16, at noon at the Sharon Presbyterian Church cemetery, 5201 Sharon Road, Charlotte, NC. The service will be officiated by the Rev. Dr. Stewart Rawson, Mr. Cook’s son in law.
After serving in the US Navy during World War II, Mr. Cook returned from the Pacific to marry his high school sweetheart, Ms. Peggy Boyd. He spent his entire career with Sperry New Holland Machine Company, selling and maintaining farm equipment. First based in Macon, GA, and then in Anderson, SC, Mr. Cook was an elder in both Macon’s Trinity Presbyterian Church and Anderson’s First Presbyterian Church. He was a devoted and faithful Sunday school teacher with his wife Peggy.
Mr. Cook was predeceased by his wife of 51 years, Mrs. Peggy Boyd Cook, and his brothers Melvin and Paul Cook. He is survived by his son, Col. Michael R. Cook (ret. US Air Force) and wife, Theresa Dyer Cook of Greenville, SC; daughter Marcia Cook Scarmardo and her husband, Frank Scarmardo of Columbia, SC, daughter Pamela Cook Plowden Rawson and her husband, Stewart Rawson, of Columbia, SC; and his devoted grandchildren: Forrest Snipes and his wife, Frances Snipes of Lexington, SC, Ranse Snipes and his wife, Meghan Snipes of Lexington, SC, Michaela Ray and her husband Phillip Ray of Christiansburg, VA, Caitlin Cook of Blacksburg, VA and Charles Plowden of Central, SC and two great grandchildren, Wilson and Wade Snipes.
The family wishes to thank Mr. Cook’s caregiver, Ms. Laurie Guerrero for the loving and devoted care that she offered in the last year of Mr. Cook’s life.
Following the service, family and friends will gather at the home of Tom and Sherard Anne Gates, 2311 Roswell Road, Charlotte, NC.
