Frank Erwin passed away on April 7, 2019 surrounded by his loving family.

He is survived by Marcia, his wife of twenty-six years and their daughter Kristen Erwin; Myung Choon Bonesteel, his second wife, and their sons, Christopher Erwin, Brian Erwin and Sean Erwin; Olivia Skory, his first wife, and their children, Catyana (Skory) Faltsetti, Tamiko (Erwin) Hershey and her children Brecon and Reed Hershey. His surviving siblings are David Persons, Kathe Skojec, Michael Erwin, Tim Persons, Eric Persons, and Jonathan Erwin.

Frank was born in Middlebury, Vermont to Kathryn and Maynard Persons. He grew up in Vermont, Connecticut and New York with Kathryn and her second husband, Russell Erwin. Frank graduated as an electrical engineer from Rochester Institute of Technology. Inspired by John F. Kennedy’s inaugural address, “ask not what your country can do for you—ask what you can do for your country,”Frank joined the Peace Corps in 1961. He was placed in Brazil, running power lines through the rural towns outside of Sāo Paulo. His Peace Corps placement ignited a passion for travel and in his lifetime Frank visited over 50 countries around the world.

Frank was a loving husband and father, who wanted the best for his family, always giving practical advice along with a funny joke. He was happiest when family was around, during holidays, family dinners, on vacation, or one-on-one for long car rides. Frank loved boating, fishing and scuba diving and longed to live by the sea.

Frank’s memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, April 13, 2019 at McEwen Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Rd. Pineville, NC 28210.

In lieu of flowers the family has set up a go fund me page, https://gofundme.com/in-loving-memory-of-frank-erwin, for an orphanage in Brazil. Before his passing, Frank was working to set up a non-profit organization to help the orphans in Registro and Eldorado, Brazil.

My prayers and thoughts are with you and your family. Frank left a positive impression on everyone he met. I loved his sense of humor and his kindness, but most of all I admired the way he loved and supported his family. Frank was blessed with a beautiful family and you were all blessed with a man who loved deeply, cared immensely and brought so much happiness to those he met. I’m grateful to have known Frank. Our running family will miss Frank and those Kiawah race dinners won’t be the same without his smile and fun he always brought with him. He will be in our hearts always. Sending love and prayers to all of you. Heaven gained such a wonderful soul who will forever be missed. Xoxoxo
