

Mc Daniel Mims Jr. left this earth on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 to be with our heavenly father following a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s. A native of Charlotte, NC, he was born on July 22, 1928, the son of McDaniel and Frances Haynes Mims. He graduated from Harding High School in 1946.
Survivors include his wife, Delores Corn Mims; daughter, Diane Sands and son-in-law, Wayne Sands; Cheryl Mims, daughter-in-law; and grandsons, Thomas Mims and Daniel Sands; and great-grandson, Jaxon Sands. He is also survived by his brother, Howard Mims and sister-in-law Betty Mims and brother-in-law James Corn and many nieces and nephews. Preceding his death in addition to his parents are son, Gary Mims; sisters, Jeanette Markham and Daisy Marshall; brother, Herman (Buddy) Mims and Harbin Mims; and in laws, James and Lillian Corn; sister-in-law, Iris Corn.
He was drafted into the Army and left the Army with an honorable discharge in 1960. He went on to work at Package Products for many years and then on to J.R. Cole Industries. He always enjoyed fixing things around the house and working on cars. He also never met a stranger.
A special thanks goes out to Carepoint Home Health Care for all the help they provided the last year or so. A special thanks to Edith and Priscilla. Also, special thanks to the caring staff at Pineville Rehab/Nursing Home and also the nurses of Palliative Care for their care in his last days.
A graveside service only will be held for Mr. Mims on Friday, October 10, at 10:30 a.m. at Sharon Memorial Park , 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte, NC. McEwen Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. The family requests that memorials be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090 in lieu of flowers.
