Melvin "Mel" S. Clark Jr.

On July 16, 2026, Mel Clark went home to be with the Lord following a courageous battle with leukemia. Mel was born on February 14, 1943, in Redford Township, Michigan, to Melvin Clark and Helen Wood. He earned his PhD in organic chemistry from the University of Louisville and devoted his professional life to polymer research at Parker TechSeal in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

While living in South Carolina, Mel found joy in hobby farming, caring for animals, gardening, and playing golf. He was a member of Mitchell Road Presbyterian Church and greatly valued his time volunteering at Taylors Free Medical Clinic in Taylors, South Carolina. After relocating to North Carolina, he settled in Charlotte and was a member of Lake Norman Baptist Church.

Mel's life was marked by patience, reflection, kindness, and perseverance. He was a cherished friend who deeply loved his family and his country. After coming to know Christ later in life, he gave himself to the study of God's word and sought to live each day according to Godly principles.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Suzanne; his children, Aaron Clark and Amy Clark; and many grandchildren. His family takes comfort in knowing that his hope was in Christ, and they pray that all who knew Mel will also come to share in the same hope, peace, and salvation found in Jesus.

A service to celebrate his life will be held on Friday, July 24, 2026, at McEwen Funerals & Cremations at Forest Lawn West, 4601 Freedom Drive, Charlotte, NC 28208. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m., followed by memorial service at 9:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites memorial gifts to Taylors Free Medical Clinic in Taylors, South Carolina.
