Born August 27, 1941 in Milledgeville, Georgia, he was the son of the late Alvin Brantley and Lucile Brantley. Following graduation from Baldwin High School in Milledgeville, Michael furthered his education at the Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, Ga., where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics. His career as a computer programmer began in 1964 with the Charlotte based company, J.P. Stevens. He later accepted a position with Celanese Corporation from which he retired in 2001, having served most of those years as a Systems Analyst/Project Manager.
Mike enjoyed playing golf and had a passion for music. This joy of music led him to become a Disc Jockey (D.J.). As a hobby, he played for many events which included the Charlotte Shag Club. He served as President of the Charlotte Shag Club for several years and was a member of the Association of Shag Icons. His love for music included primarily beach music. Mike spent many happy weekends with friends spinning records and shag dancing.
He is survived by his daughter, Allison B. McKnight of Huntersville, NC, and was preceded in death by a daughter, Angela P. Brantley.
A Memorial Reception to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, December 16th at Harry & Bryant Funeral Home, 500 Providence Road, Charlotte, N.C.
