More than anything else, Mike was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, and friend. He leaves behind the love of his life, his wife Laura, and their two beautiful daughters, Audrey and Clara, who were the center of his world and his greatest source of pride and joy. He is also lovingly survived by his parents, Greg and Sherry deMilt; his brother, Stevie deMilt, and Stevie's wife, Jamie; and many cherished family members, dear friends, and colleagues whose lives were enriched by his kindness, generosity, and unwavering optimism.
Mike earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Radford University and a Master of Science in Biotechnology Enterprise and Entrepreneurship from Johns Hopkins University. His education propelled a career spanning more than two decades in health care and biotechnology consulting, work he approached with passion, integrity, and a deep commitment to improving lives. He most recently served as Vice President and Managing Director at Avalere Health, where he was respected for his leadership and mentorship. Colleagues often spoke of his intellect, steady guidance, and the lasting impact he had on careers, clients, and patients. Yet those who knew him best understood that his greatest joy and fulfillment were found at home with his family and in the relationships, he nurtured throughout his life. With great enthusiasm, he enjoyed attending father-daughter dances, coaching girls soccer, and running races with Audrey and Clara.
Mike approached life with remarkable thoughtfulness and an incredible ability to find joy, even in challenging times. Always planning, he had hoped to celebrate "Christmas in July" this year—a reflection of his fun-loving spirit and the happiness he found in bringing people together. To honor Mike's wishes, family and friends are invited to celebrate his life on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Martin's Episcopal Church Charlotte, NC. In true Mike fashion, guests are encouraged to wear their favorite Christmas, or red and green, attire as we gather to remember, laugh, and celebrate the joy he brought to all who knew him.
The family extends its deepest gratitude to the physicians, especially Dr. Rocha Lima, nurses, and staff of the Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Comprehensive Cancer Center for the exceptional care, compassion, and support they provided throughout Mike's journey.
In lieu of flowers, Mike requested that memorial donations be made to the Wake Forest Baptist Comprehensive Cancer Center in appreciation of the outstanding care that meant so much to him and his family. Donations may be made online at the Comprehensive Cancer Center giving page or mailed to the Office of Philanthropy and Alumni Relations, P.O. Box 571021, Winston-Salem, NC 27157-1021.
Though his time with us was far too short, Mike's legacy of advocacy, strength, love, laughter, and devotion to his family will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
