Walton Family! My deepest and sincerest condolences for the loss of your son, brother, uncle, cousin! Mike was a very dear friend of mine from the moment I joined USDA in 2010. Mike was the true definition of a friend and cared about you as if you were family. We bonded on so me levels. From his time spent in my hometown of Baltimore, Sports, Culture and Life! What stood out the most was his passion, zest for life, and caring for others. Quick story - My eldest daughter lives in Charlotte and we were to meet up in a few weeks for my grandson’s graduation from high school. Last year, my daughter’s car was in the shop and I mentioned it to him that she was going to get an Uber for him. He took it upon himself to take care of it for me. Mike personally drove over to my daughter’s home and transported my grandson to his junior prom! All I heard the following day was grandpa that was a nice Lexus and how Mike mentioned he knew me! That was the character of my friend Mike! If you were family or a friend, I’m sure you have a similar story as well. His absence has already left a void… Mr & Mrs Walton, THANK YOU for sharing your gift of Michael Marcellus Walton! Blessings to all of you and those that knew my friend Big Mike! Michael, I am still trying to process that you are no longer with us. While we have been friends since we were kids and now only spoke and saw each other a few times a year, our friendship remained intact. 

From our outings in Trenton and Philly and back to Teaneck, we have had many discussions on life, real estate, what sneakers my oldest should get next, your retirement and what your future was looking like, we always were able to easily pick up where we left off and not skip a beat. 

I truly wish you had more time to explore this new season of your life. I was waiting for the day you would call and say “Keesh, I’ve decided to do….”. While this is not the future I imagined, I truly pray you are at peace and doing all the things you dreamed of doing in eternity. 

My friend, I’m really going to miss you. I extend my sincerest condolences to your family, colleagues and friends. You will truly be missed by so many people. On behalf of my entire family, rest well. Your name and life will be carried on by all those that love you. ❤️

To Michael's Family,
Offering my condolences for a man who was generous with his talents, knowledge and kept his sense of humor. We participated in outreach events where we were presenters and answered audience Q&A's.  Michael was very skilled at responding almost instantly. He was also known for 
kitchen skills:  some fond memories are of us in the USDA-MARO kitchen where he often used his Nutri-bullet blender to make smoothies and offer samples to me to get in my "daily greens".  Rest in peace. Alexis

I have known Michael for over a decade. We both volunteered for various agency initiatives over the years and it was a great pleasure to work with Michael on them. Michael was thoughtful, kind, and consistently sought to make improvements in his workplace. My love and condolences go out to his whole family.

My heart goes out to Michael’s parents and family. His untimely passing is such a tragic loss. I had the pleasure of having Michael work directly for me before I retired. His work with DEI made a significant difference, not only in the region, but on the National level. He received a prestigious national award for his successful efforts to move the nation forward. His dedication and his compassion for others were unsurpassed. He wanted to help wherever he could and diligently organized routine, creative events to support the community and the region. Michael and I grew to be friends, and I gained a sincere appreciation for his humor, thoughtfulness, and passion. He truly was a wonderful person with so much to offer, and I will miss him sorely. Rest in peace my friend.

Meeting Michael in Philly,  we became good friends.  We were almost birthday twins,  and throughout the years would celebrate with a birthday meal before his or after mine.  I will forever cherish the memories,  laughs,  and artwork.  Rest well,  my friend. This September will be different,  but I'll celebrate you nonetheless! Until we meet again! ❤️

Michael was one of the first people I met at MARO and I had the opportunity to work with him many times. I remember him  being very passionate about what he believed in.  He also had a good sense of humor and was so creative. I was very sad to learn of his passing. Sending my condolences to his family and friends. May his memory be a blessing.

Sending love and condolences to all of Michael's family and friends. His passing was very hard news to hear. We worked together at "MARO" at the  Food and Nutrition Service for about 6 years before we both took our early retirements last year. 

There were very few work days that passed that I didn't interact with Michael and it was obvious every day how much he cared about the work we were doing, they way we did it, and most importantly, the people we were serving. 

I will always remember Michael and his larger than life persona and heart. We had lots of laughs and some really good conversations both on and off the clock. 

My deepest sympathies to the loved ones he leaves behind all too soon.  Take care of yourselves and each other.

Michael and I met several years ago while working together at USDA Food and Nutrition Service through the Summer Food Service Program and other initiatives, I remember him as a kind and funny person who brought warmth to those around him. I had the pleasure of working with Michael for 24 years in our Mid- Atlantic Regional Office. We worked in different Child Nutrion Programs until he joined our School Programs team.

I will miss his smile! Michael was always smiling. He was a gentle giant,  a kind man,  a good-hearted person, and a wonderful artist. I pray he rests in peace in the light and love of our Lord.  May his memory be a blessing to all those who love him, and all those whom he loved. 💖
