Michelle graduated from East Meck High School in 2015 and Central Piedmont Cosmetology school in 2017. She worked as a hairstylist in Charlotte and Mt. Holly for 10 years.
Michelle was one of those rare people that others gravitated toward instantly. Her talent behind the chair was unreal, the kind of effortless skill that made everyone else say “how in the world did she do that?” But it was never just about hair, it was her heart. Her warmth made people feel safe, seen, hyped up, and somehow calmer all at once. Michelle was an artist in so many ways. She loved painting, sewing, photography, make-up, designing clothes, staging, and modeling. She always gave her friends and family gifts that she made with her own hands for holidays, birthdays, etc., which we will treasure forever.
Michelle had a relentless optimism that made the rest of us believe things would work out simply because she decided they would. Even in chaos, her answer was basically always, “I’ll figure it out,” and somehow…she always did. She moved through her short life with this fearless confidence and freedom that so many people spend their entire lives trying to find. She was unapologetically herself. Wild, funny, stubborn, free-spirited, endlessly alive. Her laugh was infectious and her ability to light up a room and get the party started was one of her most memorable traits. She loved to dance, so every time we hear thunder now, we will know that she is dancing in heaven.
Her time with us was far too short, but her impact here is permanent. It’s in the way we speak to each other, support each other, hype each other up, push ourselves creatively, and refuse to shrink who we are.
She was preceded in death by her Mamaw, Jane Greer, her Paternal grandparents, Dorothy and Neil McConnell. She is survived by her loving husband of 2 years, Nick; parents, Steve and Kimberly McConnell, sister, Noelle McConnell Bradburn and husband, Coty; her maternal Paw Paw, Morris Greer; father and mother in-laws, Ralph and Karen Crunden; sister-in-law, Katie and husband, Jordan, as well as 4 nieces and 1 nephew; and many dear friends and family who will forever hold her memory in their hearts.
A celebration of Michelle’s life will be held at McEwen Funeral & Cremation at Forest Lawn West, 4601 Freedom Dr., Charlotte, NC 28208 on Saturday, the 6th of June at 2:00 pm. Visitation with family will take place immediately after the service.
