Myrle Renfrow “Robbie” Harkey, 80, of Charlotte, NC, passed peacefully at her home surrounded by “her boys” and family on Saturday, November 20, 2021.

Mrs. Harkey was born on January 28, 1941 in Charlotte, daughter of Myrle P. Renfrow and John R. “Jack” Renfrow of Charlotte.

Robbie was a proud member of the last class to graduate from Central High School in 1959. She then attended Kings College in Charlotte. She spent most of her life with the love of her life, her dear Jimmy, whom she dated since the eighth grade.

For many years Robbie was counter sales manager and later, owner of Renfrow Tile Distributing Co. There was no doubt WHO ran the place! Mrs. Harkey was an active member of the Mecklenburg Jaycettes for many years, and served as President. She was an incredible wife, mother, grandmother, and caregiver to countless relatives and friends. Robbie was a giver and a helper to anyone in need. She had a heart of gold. She cherished her four boys, their spouses, and her precious granddaughter.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Harkey was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jimmy and sweet son, Jackie. Mrs Harkey is survived by her sister, Mary Ann Craft (Donald) of Winterville, NC; her sons, Reid (Bonnie), Rodney (Ryan Willis), Jeffrey; and granddaughter, Taylor, all of Charlotte; as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, wonderful friends, and her faithful companion, Major.

A service to celebrate Robbie’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, November 30th, at Sardis Presbyterian Church, 6100 Sardis Road. There will be a visitation prior in the church Education Hall from 12:30-1:45 PM. Burial will follow the service at Sunset Memory Gardens for those who wish to attend.

Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Class of 1959 and their spouses. The service can also be viewed live on-line at the Sardis Presbyterian Church YouTube channel.

I never had the pleasure of meeting this wonderful woman but did work with Jeff and Reid over the years. They are a testament to what a great mother she was!

Robbie was the president of the Mecklenburg Jaycettes when I joined. She was so kind and made me feel comfortable (I was the first African American to Join). I enjoyed working with the group and was accepted because of Robbie.

Condolences to her family.

I was very sad to hear from my brother George of Robbie's passing. Robbie and I had not connected for a long time, only because we were busy with our own families, lives, and work. I regret that as I have many wonderful memories of our family gatherings for Christmas, Thanksgiving, swimming at Uncle Jack's pool and other occasions. I also worked one summer at Renfrow Tile and saw some of Robbie then. In those times and many family outings I remember Robbie being very kind and caring of me, and the other "younger cousins", who are no longer young! I also appreciated the fun she had with our cousins who were closer to her in age, as they seemed to relate to one another and get along well. I was always thankful to be around her and her beloved husband Jimmy.
As I am currently living in Vancouver, BC, and with Covid considerations, I will not be able to attend the service, but hope to receive a copy of it from my brother. My heart and prayers will be with her children and grandchildren as well as our cousins, who I am grateful for as well. May the peace and comfort of Christ cover each of them as they process through this loss in their lives.
With love and sadness,
Cousin Johnny

Thank you Mom for making my life what it is today. We have lost the most precious people but you always continue to make us smile. You loved and cared for us like no one could ever imagine. You took care of everyone after Dad’s passing and showed us what a good person truly is to be. You taught us to treat everyone with respect-Treat others the way you want to be treated. You were the definition of a true southern lady. I will always love and miss you and take comfort Dad, Jackie, our beloved lost ones and yourself are forever together again. I look forward to joining you all once it is my time. I love you so much Mom. You deserve to rest and rejoice.

Jeff
