

Mr. Joyner, of Charlotte, passed from his life on earth into the eternal presence of God on Wednesday evening, October 30, 2013, while a patient at the VA Medical Center Hospice House in Salisbury. The family will receive friends 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM Saturday, November 2nd, at McEwen Funeral Service - Derita Chapel. The service to celebrate the Life of N.S. Joyner, Jr. will follow at 2:00 PM in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Richard L. Muri, officiating. He will be laid to rest privately beside his wife, Ruth, in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
Born March 21, 1925 in Mars Hill, he was the seventh of eight children born to Rev. Norman (N.S.) Joyner, Sr. and Mattie Laura Blanchard Joyner. The family set up residence in Waxhaw. His siblings and spouses: John and Margie Joyner, Marion and Haywood Gillis, Emily and Bob Newell, Donnie and Donald Helms, Jud and Betty Joyner, and Earlene Joyner and Ralph Joyner. Following his serving in the US Navy, N.S. married Annie Ruth Hallman of Lancaster, SC in 1950. Their three children and spouses: Shaw and Cheryl Joyner, Scot and Joy Joyner and Beth Joyner. N.S. enjoyed his six grandchildren: Melissa, Clay, Patrick, Emily, Laura and Adam and dozens of nieces and nephews. He married Irene Myers several years after the death of his first wife, Ruth.
N.S. was a longtime member of Derita Baptist Church where he and his family worshiped and served.
