Nam passed away Friday, March 4, 2022 in Charlotte, NC. Born on October 27, 1961 in Vietnam, he was a son of the late Ky Van Nguyen and Nghien Kim. Once leaving his home country as a refugee in 1979, he started his own journey to the United States, where Charlotte, NC would eventually become his home. He graduated from Myers Park High School.
He adored his wife, Nhan, whom he had become engaged to while still in Vietnam. On the journey to the U.S., they would be separated, with Nam going to Charlotte and Nhan going to Houston, TX. But they stayed in touch by writing letters to each other. Nam and Nhan were married in Houston on August 2, 1980 and they both came back to Charlotte to start their lives together. They would go on to have three beautiful daughters, run a small business, and take many walks together.
His greatest joys in life were spending time with his family around the dinner table, having a good discussion about any topic, and cheering on his Carolina sports teams. He was also a great artist, writer, musician and craftsman.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Nhan Thi Tran; three daughters, ThuVan Cordero (Vincent), Jeannie Pierce (Matthew) and Christina Nguyen, all of Charlotte; four beloved grandchildren, Cassidy Cordero, Bennett Cordero, Charlie Pierce and Austin Pierce; as well as his brothers, Ri Van, Nhat Van, Khoa Van, and his sister, Nga Thi.
A visitation will be held between 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm Wednesday, March 9, at McEwen Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Rd., Charlotte, NC 28210.
