Nancy Berry Bridges of Matthews, NC, born on Father’s Day, June 16, 1946, passed away at home on September 16, 2019. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. After graduating from Mars Hill College, she began her career as a Registered Nurse. Although nursing was her passion, she turned her focus toward her most important ministry, her family, and became a homemaker. She was an active member in her church and taught Sunday School for many years. Nancy published several prayer guides for Metrolina Baptist Ministries as well an article in HomeLife magazine. She also volunteered at Crisis Assistance Ministries. Nancy saw a need for a humor ministry and produced a weekly newsletter for family, friends, and the homebound. Nancy enjoyed reading and Bible study. She enjoyed playing the piano and listening to her favorite hymns as well as gospel music.
She is survived by her husband of almost 50 years, George Bridges; son, John Bridges; daughter, Janet Scott (spouse Clint); son, Jim Bridges (spouse Renée); grandchildren, Jordan and Landace Scott; and sisters Martha Powell, Carolyn Piercy, Linda Sansing, and Joyce Staabs; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Julian and Cornelia Berry, her sister Becky Berry, and her grandson, Zachary Exton Scott.
Nancy and her husband George would have celebrated 50 years of marriage on December 14, 2019. The family was blessed to have been able to celebrate Nancy and George’s 50th wedding anniversary on a trip to Gatlinburg, Tennessee in August.
Visitation will be between 11 AM-1PM on Thursday, September 19, 2019 at Cornerstone Baptist Church, 8947 Albemarle Road, Charlotte, NC. Funeral service will be at 1PM, following the visitation. The interment will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery and Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the Lottie Moon Christmas offering through Cornerstone Baptist Church, 8947 Albemarle Rd, Charlotte, NC 28227.
