Nancy Jane Eckard

Nancy Jane Eckard, 87, of Charlotte, passed away June 28, 2023. Born and raised in Charlotte, Nancy entered this life on February 6, 1936. She was the daughter of the late Oscar Paul and Janie Idelle (Smith) Eckard.

Nancy attended Thomasboro School through the 10th grade and graduated as an honor student from West Mecklenburg High School in 1954. After graduating high school, she worked as a dispatcher for Miller Motor Express, Inc. Later, she was employed with Horne Electric for 29 years, where she retired in 2001. Her boss, Eddie Horne, said that she was an outstanding Executive Assistant. She was conscientious, intelligent, customer focused, and as good an employee as ever worked at Horne Electric. She made sure everything ran smoothly and was done right with her warm smile and good disposition.

A very caring person, Nancy enjoyed celebrating the holidays and birthdays with family and friends. She also enjoyed spending time at the beach and attending the races at Charlotte Motor Speedway and Daytona.

She along with her parents, were charter members of Saint James United Methodist Church in Charlotte. She later became a member of Assurance United Methodist Church in Huntersville.

Nancy is survived by her brother, Jimmie Eckard of Parksley, VA; niece, Kathie Herrera of Gainesville, FL and nephew, Karl Eckard of Charlotte.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a niece, Amy Eckard.

Services for Nancy will be held Saturday, July 22, 2023 at Forest Lawn West Funeral & Cremation Service, 4601 Freedom Drive, Charlotte, NC. Visitation 10:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM in the funeral home Chapel. Burial in Forest Lawn West Cemetery.
