

Nancy Melissa Hartung, 65, passed away suddenly Monday, June 4, 2012 at Carolinas Medical Center. Born in Guthrie Center, Iowa on January 20, 1947, she was a daughter of the late Edwin Stamen and Norma Wilson Stamen. Nancy graduated from the University of Iowa in 1969 with a degree in Education.
Nancy was a member of University City United Methodist Church, where she performed mission work, the University City Womens Group and was queen of the local chapter of the Red Hats.
Nancy volunteered in many community organizations such as PEO, where she held several officer positions including chapter president in Sioux Falls, SD and Charlotte. She also volunteered with the Boys and Girls Club in Sioux Falls, SD, and at the Wells Fargo Championship for the last 10 years.
Nancy followed her husband around the country for many years and made friends wherever she was and had a habit of going somewhere and meeting someone who knew someone that she was familiar with no matter where she was in the country. Nancy was always willing to help out friends whenever she was able. Her hobbies were numerous including being an avid reader and she was constantly doing needle point which she gave as gifts to many of her friends. Nancy enjoyed going to the beach and doing lunch with her friends.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00PM, Wednesday, June 13th at University United Methodist Church with Dr. F. Ronald Smith officiating. The family will receive friends following the memorial service.
Nancy is survived by her husband of 42 years, John Hartung; a sister, Patricia Hemming and husband Jack, of Hayward, WI and many nieces, nephews and cousins whom she loved and adored.
