

Nancy is survived by her children, David R. Ritch of Aurora, CO, Joseph L. Ritch of Suffolk, VA, and Robert S. Ritch of Waxhaw, N.C. Nancy had seven grandchildren, John C. Ritch, Sarah E. Ritch, Michael L. Ritch, Kelsey G. Ritch, Cameron L. Ritch, M. Chandler Ritch, and Max J. Ritch. In addition, Nancy had three wonderful daughters by marriage, Lisa J. Ritch, Mindy W. Ritch, and Beth R. Ritch. She is preceded in death by her husband, Harvey E. Ritch of Linville, N.C., her son, H. Edward Ritch, Jr. of Charlotte, N.C. and her parents, Joseph. H. Smith and Katherine S. Smith of High Point, N.C.
Nancy was born on March 24, 1931 in Smithfield, N.C. to Joseph and Katherine Smith. Nancy attended the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, Queens University, Charlotte, N.C., and Appalachian State University, Boone, N.C., graduating with Bachelors and Master’s degrees in education. Nancy was an early childhood educator in Charlotte, N.C.
In addition to her education and career, Nancy played the piano and enjoyed the Arts. She was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church for 64 years. When she retired from teaching she volunteered at the church, traveled, was an avid theater patron, painter, bridge player and enjoyed being an integral part of her children and grandchildren lives.
Nancy passed away peacefully in her home after a short illness. She will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Nancy was the glue that kept the Ritch family together.
The funeral is scheduled for March 10, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, Charlotte, N.C. A reception will follow at the church. Nancy will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn East Cemetery in Matthews, N.C. Pastor Scott will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Nancy's life.
In lieu of flowers, honorariums can be sent to the Hospice House of Monroe, N.C.
