She was born November 27, 1931, in Charlotte, NC, the daughter of the late Frank and Hazel Roberts. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Weldon Shrum and her brothers, Boyce Roberts and Frank Roberts. Mrs. Shrum was a graduate of Harding High School class of 1950. She also attended Queens College. She developed life-long friendships with many of her high school and college friends.
She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and aunt, and her greatest joy was spending time with her family who she loved so much. Her love and guidance will be greatly missed. Her faith in our Lord and the ways in which she valued and cared for others will provide lasting memories and serve as powerful examples to all of us.
Surviving are her sons, Donnie Shrum and wife Debra, and Bobby Shrum and wife Myrna; daughter, Carol Shrum; grandson, Tommy Shrum; granddaughters, Michelle Shrum, Erin Shrum, Amy Alenky and husband Bryan, and Stacy Shrum and fiancé Michael Mears; great granddaughter, Riley Alenky; close family friends Lisa Bellucci and son David Fowler; brothers-in-law, Russell Shrum and wife Ruth, Ray Shrum and wife Lee, Fred Smith; sisters-in-law Thelma Porter, Elsie Shrum, and Dot Williams; many nieces, nephews and their families, and many special friends.
The family would like to especially thank her wonderful caregivers, Mary, Nina, Rachel, Melissa, and others who loved and cared for her as well as her nurse Cecy.
A visitation will be held at McEwen Pineville Chapel in Charlotte, NC from 7:00-9:00 PM on Friday, March 2, 2018. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, March 3, 2018, at Carmel Presbyterian Church. Interment will precede the service at 11:30 AM Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Forest Lawn West Cemetery.
Memorials in Mrs. Shrum’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
