She is preceded in death by her parents, Nannie Roberta Satterwhite and Alan Frances Benjamin, her brother Alan Benjamin, and former spouse Franklin C. Stack.
Nancy was born in Baltimore, Maryland, on January 29, 1941. She spent a couple years of her childhood in Panama, near the Panama Canal, where her parents worked at Coco Solo Navy Base after the war. They returned to Baltimore, where Nancy attended Eastern High School (1960) and Towson State Teachers College (1965). After graduation, she taught math in public schools in Maryland.
Nancy met Franklin Stack at a dance social at a hotel in Washington, DC. They married on June 7, 1968; they remained married until 2017. They lived in Hyattsville, MD, until moving to Spotsylvania, VA, in 1988.
After spending a few years raising her children, Nancy transferred her math skills to computer programming. She worked for NASA, the Coast Guard, and eventually the State Department, where her work as a systems analyst took her to American embassies all over the world.
Upon retirement, Nancy spent a couple of years living on the big island of Hawaii before moving to North Carolina to be closer to family. Nancy had many interests and hobbies; she loved gardening, cross stitch, miniatures, and bird watching. While living in Virginia, she loved attending estate auctions and went on several cruises with her auction friends.
Nancy loved animals, with dogs taking a special place in her heart. She will especially be looking forward to greeting Ada at the Rainbow Bridge, who was her devoted companion during her later retirement years.
Nancy’s favorite place was the beach, and her wish was to have her ashes spread at sea, so the family will be having a private gathering at the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
