Nancy Jo Boydston Vasko, age 77, passed away peacefully on October 30, 2024, after a courageous battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, whose warmth, kindness, and sense of humor enriched the lives of all who knew her.
Born on June 1, 1947, in Queens, New York, Nancy was the beloved daughter of Jack and Lenora Boydston and the cherished wife of the late Joseph Carl Vasko. Together, Nancy and Joe shared many years of love and happiness.
As a child, Nancy contracted polio, leaving her with limited use of one arm. Despite this, she faced life with determination and resilience. She outswam her peers with her strength and perseverance, proving that challenges could be overcome.
Nancy worked as a dental assistant for 37 years with Drs. Graham, Graham & Reynolds, where her professionalism and caring nature earned her the respect of colleagues and patients alike. She later pursued her passion for design by owning Making Memories Bridal Studio, creating wedding apparel and accessories for many brides.
Nancy loved life’s simple pleasures. Mornings were spent reading, stretching, and enjoying her beautiful garden, while evenings included a glass of wine, healthy meals, and cozy slippers. She had a great sense of humor, especially enjoying “Dad Jokes” that always brought smiles.
Nancy was also an avid music fan, enjoying artists like Andrea Bocelli, Bob Seger, and Billy Joel. Her love for cooking was reflected in her famous banana pudding and holiday recipes with her son, Lloyd. She was passionate about staying active, enjoying trips to the gym and spending time outdoors.
Nancy’s family was her greatest treasure. She loved playing Gin Rummy with her daughter, Kelly, baking cookies with her granddaughter, Layla, and creating special moments with her stepdaughter Jennifer and her children, Luke, Abby, and Gracie. She also enjoyed trips with her girlfriends, peaceful drives to the mountains with her late husband Joe, beach visits, and local park festivals.
She is survived by her children, Kelly Tolar (Dan) and their daughter Layla, Lloyd William Isom and his son Joshua, and stepdaughter Jennifer Kohler and her children, Luke, Abby, and Gracie. She is also survived by her siblings: Dennis Boydston, Jane Newman (Joel), Maxine Shaw, Jill Hueckel (Steve Nutt), and Bonnie Boydston (Sal Marin), as well as many cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Marilynn Finneran (George) and Betsy Gilbert.
