Norman Fredric Steinberger was an eclectic and eccentric man who wore many hats and beautiful ties in his many life roles as super dad, philanthropist, entrepreneur, man of God, business consultant, comedian, server for humanity, to name the main qualities of this beautiful being!!!
Norman was quite focused on specific goals in this short life! His main focus was being of service to mankind by being available both personally and financially for those in need, donating huge amounts of both time, energy and money to various charities around North Carolina, including many various ongoing donation projects involving his beloved synagogues Temple Israel and Temple Beth El, where Norman found solstice, shelter, God, and a sense of peace on a regular basis, being a super active member of these synagogues!!! He gave so much to these pillars of faith and community support synagogues on so many levels, realizing their vital role as places of spiritual and religious tradition, history, and service in the greater Charlotte Jewish community, along with his own personal super large commitment to Judaism!!
The selfless acts of giving and kindness and a great sense of humor and jest extended also to his immediate family and all who knew him!! Norman was always the first guy to rise up and offer assistance wherever it was needed or requested!! Best known for his wit, happy go lucky attitude combined with an assortment of outlandish, colorful attire, raw humor and antics combined with a gentle demeanor, Norman was a magnet for making friends easily!!! Folks were hungry for the joy, the laughter, the silly humor and satire Norman brought to every occasion!! It was always a joy to be in Norman’s presence!
Although, believe it or not, he was actually a geeky introvert at heart and a very private person. Norman never sought recognition or acknowledgement for all his charitable pursuits; often keeping them secret and anonymous!!
Norman also spent a great deal of time focusing on building and managing his many business pursuits, ranging from the early days of a middle of the road family furniture business in Statesville, where he commuted with his brother Stanley for 33 long years, which led to the more exciting real estate and securities opportunities with great passion and drive!!! Norman was highly successful in most of those pursuits because he was a super committed player and viewed business as a challenge vs profit margins; so he could simply donate even more to charities and those less fortunate!!
Norman walked, lived and breathed integrity, authenticity, satire, honor, fairness, deep intelligence, respect for all living beings, and the acts of kindness and compassion through the true art of selfless service!! Both Charlotte, NC, the Jewish community, and the world has lost a true icon and a truly great man who clearly left his mark in this broken world, and did it his way despite all odds or obstacles!!
Norman will be missed immensely by all who knew or were touched by him!! Thank you all for loving and holding our dear Norman in such beautiful, kind ways, because that’s mainly what he sought in life more than anything!! We love you Norman!!!
Norman is survived by sons, Gregg Steinberger and Brett Steinberger; his eldest son, Stephen Steinberger tragically died in 1986. He was the grandfather of Stone Steinberger; ex-husband of Rita J. Marholin; brother of Stanley Steinberger; uncle to three nieces and nephews, Jamie Steinberger, Lane Steinberger and Blake Steinberger, and companion, Gail Halverson.
