Born on March 8, 1943, in Moore County to the late Hattie Opal Spivey and Glen Edward Spivey, Dean’s life was one defined by resilience, love, and unwavering devotion to her family and friends.
Dean embraced life with courage and strength, never allowing health challenges to overshadow her spirit. A true survivor, she faced every battle with the heart of a warrior.
She had a gift for nurturing, often house- and pet-sitting for loved ones, treating each “pet” as if they were her own grandchildren. Her love for animals was boundless, and she shared her home and heart with many throughout the years. Dean also cherished the simple joys of life — from watching her favorite TV shows and movies to listening to gospel music and reading her Bible. She especially loved the mountains, had a deep admiration for the Cherokee Indians, and enjoyed crafting dreamcatchers that reflected her appreciation for beauty and tradition.
Dean delighted in family gatherings, where laughter and love flowed freely. She enjoyed coloring on her phone in later years, a small pastime that brought her peace and joy. Above all, she treasured her role as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother — titles she wore with pride and honor.
A dedicated and hardworking woman, Dean spent many years employed at Gilbarco before retiring from Wal-Mart, where she was known for her strong work ethic and kind spirit.
She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Sandra Elixson; twin brothers, Carl (Kathy) Spivey and Cecil (Wanda) Spivey; son-in-law, Kenneth Elixson; and brother-in-law, Joe Robinson.
Dean’s memory will live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind; her children, Ronnie Spivey and Elaine (Chris) Helms; grandchildren, Melissa (Steven) Hathcock, Katlyn (Chris) Spivey, James (Ashley) Elixson, and Jennifer (Brian) Yacobellis; great grandchildren, Jeremy, Madalyn, Kenneth, Maverick, and Kit; brother, Danny (Geri) Spivey; sister, Linda Robinson; many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; and her life long friend, Judy Murphy.
The family will hold a celebration of Dean’s life at a later date, where loved ones can gather to honor her memory and share in the joy she brought to so many.
Dean’s family will forever remember her for her selflessness, her unshakable faith, and her ability to find joy in even the simplest of moments.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Dean’s memory may make contributions to David’s Advocacy for the Homeless, the Humane Society of Concord, or to a charity of their choice.
Her legacy of love, strength, and kindness will continue to live on in the many lives she touched.
