Charlotte - Orman R. Haeberle passed away at the age of 90 on December 31, 2013 after a short illness and stay at the Harris Hospice Center at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte, NC. Mr. Haeberle was born on September 14, 1923 to the late George and Mary Haeberle in Milwaukee, WI.
After completing high school, he served in World War II in Patton’s Third Army; he was awarded a Purple Heart after being seriously wounded in fighting in western Germany. In 1950, Orman married Christie Yohanna Kalmeyer of Charlotte. After stints in Oklahoma City and Milwaukee, the Haeberle’s moved to Charlotte permanently in 1952. Mr. Haeberle was employed by the Stetson Hat Company for most of his career. He retired in 1988.
Following his retirement, Mr. Haeberle enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, participating in supper clubs, and taking long walks with friends. He was a Mason and a member of the Men’s Apparel Club.
Mr. Haeberle is preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Christie Haeberle; sisters, Evelyn Schlagaer and Ruth Lawrence; and brother, Eugene Haeberle. He is survived by his sons, Orman Haeberle, Jr. of Charlotte, and Kevin Haeberle and his wife Sandra of Long Beach, CA; daughter, Dawn Krouse and husband Michael of Atlanta, GA; and granddaughters, Katherine and Ilyssa Krouse of Atlanta.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to National Jewish Health/Respiratory Center, 1400 Jackson St., Denver, CO 80206.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014 at Harry and Bryant Funeral Home. Funeral services will be private for the family.
