Chip was born on November 11, 1949 in Raleigh, NC to Elaine Campbell Davis and Oscar Muse Davis III. After graduating from Needham B. Broughton High School in Raleigh, Chip traveled all the way across town to attend North Carolina State University where he earned a B.S. degree in Industrial Engineering. After graduation, he fulfilled his draft obligation and served with the U.S. Army in Vietnam. Following his tour of duty, Chip began his 34-year career in industrial piping.
Chip is survived by his wife of 42 years, Denise Somers Davis; daughter, Courtney (New York, NY); son, Campbell and wife Harper and two grandchildren, Camp and River (Denver, CO); sisters, Gretchen Thompson and husband Ulay (Clermont, FL), Diane McCullough and husband William (Landenberg, PA), Debbie Lightsey and husband Scott (Destin, FL); in addition to a number of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, July 30, 2021 at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, 1510 East 7th St., Charlotte, with Rev. Joshua D. Bowron presiding. The family will receive friends following the service.
