Patricia Helen Reilly Cashion, 96, ended her earthly journey and entered heaven on December 13, 2018. She was born in Pittsburgh, Pa. on February 17, 1922. She was the youngest of four children of James P. and Geraldine Reilly. Pat graduated from Avalon High School where she met the love of her life, Robert Cashion. She went on to nursing school and Bob went to serve in WWII. Pat graduated from St. Johns School of Nursing, and worked in Community Health. Dr. Jonas Salk was developing the Polio Vaccine and she worked alongside him in the polio wards. Pat specialized in caring for polio patients in iron lungs.
Bob Cashion was flying "the Burma Hump" and rarely saw his fiancée, Pat. He was able to snag a weekend pass and they eloped, informing family and friends by telegram. After the war, the married couple settled into suburban life, raising and educating four children. Bob became a banker, and Pat was the homemaker, hostess, executive wife and mother. They enjoyed family activities, church, traveling, entertaining and bridge.
The family moved to Charlotte in 1970 when Bob joined NCNB (now Bank of America) and they fell in love with their new city. They became members of Trinity Presbyterian Church and Carmel Country Club and spent many hours on the golf course. After Bob's death, Pat stayed active with friends, including the new ones she made when she moved to the Carriage Club in 2012. Pat served on the Resident Board of Advisors during her six years there.
Pat is survived by her children Lynn Kosmakos, Carol Lassiter (Cal), Robert Cashion, Jr., and Christine Assaf (Rich). She is also survived by her grandchildren Christopher Kosmakos (Dawn), Amy Knorr, Missy Owen (Geoff), Lindsey Skidmore (Wyatt), and Alex Kachellek (Garrett). Very special thanks to all Pat's wonderful friends and the staff at the Carriage Club. Also, thanks to Jessica, her caring nurse from Hospice and Palliative Care of Charlotte.
Pat's life will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 19th at 2 pm at The Carriage Club - 5800 Old Providence Road in Charlotte. Pastor John Williams of Providence Community Church will officiate. Memorials to Pat may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care Charlotte Region, PO Box 470408, Charlotte, NC 28247.
