Patricia Ann Sawyers

Patricia Ann Sawyers, 88 years old, went to meet Jesus on Sunday, October 31, 2021. She died at Novant Hospital in Matthews, NC surrounded by her loving family and under the devoted care of hospice. Born June 8, 1933 in McDowell, West Virginia, Pat was the daughter of Rolfe St. John and Ella Ann Bower St. John. She graduated in 1951 from Northfork High School. She married the love of her life, Charles Douglas Sawyers, on April 29, 1951.

Once she moved to the Charlotte area, Pat began working with Winn Dixie Stores. She held many roles there, including bookkeeping, management and auditing. She retired from Winn Dixie at the age of 65 after more than 30 years of service there.

Pat was a member of Pineville Church of the Nazarene, where she was active in the "Prime Timers" senior group. She led Sunday School and volunteered with the food pantry. Her other passion was her involvement in the Red Hat Society. She was an active member and even held the Queen Bee role at one point.

The joy of Pat's life was her family. She was a loving mother of three children, grandmother (Nana) of eight grandchildren, and three -- soon to be four -- great grandchildren.

Pat was preceded in death by her father, mother and husband. She is survived by her children, Timothy Lee Sawyers, Jeffrey Troy Sawyers and Dana Sawyers Kell.

A service to celebrate Pat's life will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, November 4, 2021 in the chapel of McEwen Funeral Services Pineville Chapel (10500 Park Rd., Charlotte, NC 28210). The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. prior to the service at the same location. A private interment will be held at Charlotte Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that all memorial gifts be sent to "The Prime Timers Seniors Group" at Pineville Church of the Nazarene (8614 Pineville-Matthews Rd. Charlotte NC, 28226).
