Born in Hazleton, Pa. on May 10, 1945, he was the son of the late Joseph and Anna Bujak of Hazleton, Pa. He graduated from Hazleton Sr. High School in 1963 and from Penn State University in 1972 with a B.S. degree in Computer Science. He also received an Associate Degree in Electrical and Electronics Technology from Penn State University in 1965. He went to work for IBM Corp. in East Fishkill, NY in 1965 and retired from the company in 1995 after 30 years of service.
While working for IBM, he was drafted into the US Army in September of 1967 and served 2 years in the army. After finishing basic training and advanced individual infantry training as a 81 mm mortar gunner, he received orders for Vietnam arriving there in March of 1968, one month after the famous Tet uprising across the country. He was assigned to the 25th Infantry Division (Tropic Lightning) as a mortarman with Company C, 2nd Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment (Wolfhounds). The divisional base camp was headquartered in Cu Chi, Vietnam. In June of 1968, he received the Purple Heart for shrapnel wounds received from a Viet Cong mortar attack on his company’s night defensive position. After discharge from the army in September of 1969, he took another leave of absence from IBM to work on his Computer Science degree.
During the final years of his life, he enjoyed taking his travel trailer camper and spent 3 months each summer touring different parts of the country visiting national parks, national monuments, military museums, and just enjoying driving the interstates and back roads of the United States. He was able to do this for almost 4 summers until his kidney cancer surfaced and the pain from the kidney cancer became unbearable to continue.
