

Paul was born in Chicago on October 4, 1952 as the first born to Howard and Rosa Merchant followed by his brother, Mark. The family lived in many cities during Paul’s childhood, including Charlotte.
He went on to earn a Microbiology degree from Ohio State University, which he later used when working for Pepsi Co. and Schweppes. After moving to Charlotte in 1979, he spent the majority of his career managing the family business, Myers Bicycle & Locksmith, for twenty years.
When not working, he was a loving husband and father. He had a passion for music and playing the guitar that led him to play in many bands and collect records throughout his life.
Paul is survived by his wife, Linda Merchant, of Winston Salem; two children, Matthew Merchant (Luciana) of Charlotte and Elizabeth Merchant of Baltimore. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother.
A visitation will be held from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm on Thursday, January 12th at Harry & Bryant Funeral Home, 500 Providence Road. Following at 1:00 p.m. will be a service from the graveside in Sharon Memorial Park officiated by the Reverend Ollie V. Rencher, Rector of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church.
