He was born on November 11, 1936 in Trade, TN to the late Frank (August 6, 1893 – March 28, 1990) and Bessie Main Potter (August 25, 1902 – August 28, 1996).
Perry served in the Army, stationed in Germany from 1958-1960. Following his military service, Perry worked at Hoods Restaurant Supply for 20 years, he later retired from Freightliner in Mount Holly after 19 years. Following his retirement Perry went cross country with his brother Howard, spending several years helping to open and close Yellowstone Park; he also worked at Peninsula Club and delivered flowers for Artistry Florals.
Perry was a member of Lake Norman Church of Christ, the Jolly Travelers Club, American Legion Post 86 and a member of Temple 0676 of Ancient Free & Accepted Masons in Charlotte. Perry was considered the Worlds greatest golfer.
Perry is survived by his daughter Shannon Potter Nejeschleba and husband Guy Nejeschleba of Fort Mill, SC; daughter Deva Potter Chirico and husband Martin Chirico of Fort Mill, SC; sister Wilma Potter Miller of Zionville, NC; brother Howard Potter and wife Peggy Baird Potter of Gray, TN; grandchildren Jessica Hailey Siplon, Sage Joseph Nejeschleba and Dominick Perry Chirico; sister in law Charlene Lundy Potter of Bluff City, TN; many Nephews and Nieces; his Daughters and Sons in Faith Betsy Murphey and husband Jimmy Murphey; Shannon Johnston and husband Ron Johnston; Angie McCurry and husband Mike McCurry; and Ann McDonald and husband David McDonald.
He is preceded in death by siblings, Hazel, Hayden and Frank Potter Jr.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Lake Norman Church of Christ.
A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 pm on Friday January 25, 2018 at McEwen Funeral Service Pineville Chapel. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, January 26, 2018 at Crown Memorial Park. A Memorial Service will be held following the graveside at noon at Lake Norman Church of Christ; Travis Robertson, Rob Albright and Ron Johnston will be officiating the service.
