

Mrs. Sutthoff passed away on June 15 in her home in the care of her family assisted by Blue Dot Care and Novant’s Hospice-at-Home. Funeral services will be at Sardis Presbyterian church at 2 pm June 20 with Dr. Joe B. Martin officiating. Her ashes will be placed beside her husband’s in the Sardis Columbarium. Phyllis was born January 13, 1925 on the family farm near Monticello Iowa the daughter of Isaac and Matilda (Eggers)Schneider. She married Bob (Robert B. Sutthoff) on March 11, 1945 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He died August 5, 2024, also at age 101. She was a graduate of Monticello high school. She was employed at Lawrence Bros. hardware for 28 years. Phyllis was blessed with a large loving family and many friendships over the years. She was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church.
Phyllis was the matriarch of her family. She was admired by the way she offered continual love and support. Her sense of witty humor and fun was timeless. She was blessed with an abundance of health and strength. Her love for family and devotion to son and husband were relentless. She had an array of talents and interests; including golf, cooking, reading, sewing, walking, camping, traveling, and socializing with friends and neighbors. She and her husband enjoyed boating, camping, and fishing on the Mississippi River when they lived and worked in Illinois and Iowa. They retired to Lakeland FL for ten wonderful years before moving to Charlotte to be close to family. Sardis church members, family, and new neighbors kept them busy and fulfilled.
Phyllis was blessed with a large loving family and many friends over the years. She and her husband enjoyed volunteering at Sardis’ Room at the Inn and the fellowship of the early morning walking group at church. Phyllis and Bob accomplished so much together in their almost 80 yrs of marriage. Travels over the years took them to nearly every state and national park almost always camping along the way.
Phyllis is survived by her only child Robert F. (Alice), four grandchildren: Michele Plyler (Douglas), Jeffrey Sutthoff (Sara), Amelia Margulies (Brian), Joseph Sutthoff (Mija), eight great grandchildren: Nicholas Margulies, Vincent Margulies, Olivia Margulies, Samuel Sutthoff, Ethan Sutthoff, Gavin Sutthoff, Aidan Plyler, Vanessa Yevsin (Gennadiy) and two great, great grand daughters Eva and Valerie Yevsin.
Phyllis had 7 brothers and 4 sisters. Her twin brother Phillip and all of her other siblings pre-deceased her except younger brother Marvin who resides in Marion IA. She is survived by many nieces and nephews.
