

Rachel West, 90, of Charlotte NC, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2011 at Sharon Towers.
Rachel was born on September 29, 1920 in Mooresville, NC, to the late Reverend William Edward West and Sarah Shannon Ranson West. As a child, she lived in Southport and Mooresville, NC, and fondly remembered life in the Presbyterian Church there.
She was a graduate of Queens College in Charlotte, with a major in English. She worked for Southern Railroad for fifteen years, as a train hostess between New York and New Orleans, among other major routes, and in the ticket offices of major cities. She later was the first, and for a while the sole, employee for the Atlanta Motor Club in Charlotte. She then worked as a service representative for Allstate Insurance Company until retirement.
Miss West was a member of Myers Park Presbyterian Church for forty-five years. For the last eight years, she has been a resident of Sharon Towers, where she was a member of the Stroupe Legacy Circle.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Thorne West Hager; and two brothers, Joe Ransom West and Paul Edward West.
Miss West is survived by a niece, Rebecca West Michael of Bethlehem NC and a nephew, William Edward West II of Columbia SC.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 16, 2011 in the chapel at Myers Park Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Dr. Millie Snyder officiating. The family will receive friends in the parlor, following the service. The committal service in the columbarium at the church will be a private ceremony.
