OBITUARY

Randolph "Ran" Alan Dinsmore

February 13, 1951 – October 13, 2022
Obituary of Randolph "Ran" Alan Dinsmore
IN THE CARE OF

McEwen Funeral Service-Pineville Chapel

Randolph A. Dinsmore, "Ran", peacefully entered eternity the evening of October 13, 2022 in Charlotte, North Carolina with his brother and sister by his side.

He is survived by his father Robert G Dinsmore, Sr., his brother Robert G Dinsmore, Jr., and his sister Beverly Beem. He was predeceased by his mother Norma L. Dinsmore. Ran was a much loved son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin and a wonderful and loyal friend to many, many people.

Ran was born in Presque Isle, Maine February 1951. He was a graduate of Easton High School and Bob Jones University. Upon University graduation Ran entered the public accounting profession joining a "big eight" international accounting firm in Washington, DC where he qualified as a Certified Public Accountant. Later years he joined the Amtrak finance team in Washington, DC where he held a senior finance role for many years. The last 20 years of his professional life he started and built his own very successful CPA firm in Northern Virginia where he developed a widely recognized expertise in finance, accounting and taxation of the restaurant industry.

Ran's formative years were on a northern Maine potato farm where he developed all the skills required of a successful working farmer and he never lost his interest in caring for the land and growing things. As a pastime pleasure he built a greenhouse at his Virginia residence where he successfully experimented growing all sorts of flowers, trees, fruits, nuts, and vegetables. One experiment — growing gourds — went wild when the gourds climbed his apple tree and produced a full crop of hanging gourds along with his normal apple production.

He held a wide range of interests — He enjoyed music (played trumpet in the high school band), loved playing and collecting guitars, enjoyed riding and being around horses (while a youngster always rode his pony in the annual town parade), pursued photography, built and equipped a super woodworking shop, loved to cook (enjoyed making pickles), and was an avid reader of a wide range of subject matter. He was a good athlete (played high school baseball and basketball) and he enjoyed playing and watching a wide range of sporting activities. But his favorite sports were baseball, basketball and golf. He enjoyed travelling and his professional life provided the opportunity for visits to many interesting locations in North America — but one of his favorite travels was to Ireland where he and his brother, with friends, played many rounds of fun filled (sometimes emotionally painful) golf.

Ran loved and was loved by his family and could always be counted on whenever and for whatever. He was a frequent babysitter for his niece and nephew when they were young and they maintained a lifelong friendship and admiration for him. Where family was involved, Ran was "all in".

He was a man of admirable personal integrity and character. Always sought to do the right thing, holding very strong moral and ethical values. He was principled but always respectful of other points of view. He was quick witted and had a wonderful sense of humor. Ran had many, many friends and he was honest, fair minded and ethical to a fault. He had a caring heart, and was always quietly helping others in need while never seeking any personal acknowledgement or praise. He made a very significant positive and valuable difference in the spaces he occupied during his lifetime and we will forever miss his presence. However, we take great comfort in the knowledge that Ran is now in heaven with family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to the charity of your choice in Ran's memory, or quietly help someone you know is in need.

Burial arrangements are in the care of Bowers Funeral in Presque Isle, Maine. Details of a graveside service will be announced at a later date.
