A native of Sidney, NY, Mr. Barnes was born to the late Raymond L. Barnes and Lena Boyd Barnes on April 29, 1932. He was a US Navy veteran and longtime member and Sunday school teacher at University City United Methodist Church. Mr. Barnes retired from IBM after 43 years of service. He was a man of God, enjoyed woodworking and used his talents to help family, friends and church. Mr. Barnes was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Dorothy Frances Barnes in 2010.
Mr. Barnes is survived by his sons Ronald Barnes, David Barnes (Debbie), Norman Barnes (Cheryl); grandchildren, Scott Barnes (Leann), Kati Glass (Stephen) and Kevin Barnes.
A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 29 at University City United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church.
