He fought a long battle with ALS for the last 5 years. He was known for his contributions to his local parish community, especially during the holidays. He was an AVS business owner for over 30 years for both commercial and residential properties. He was a devoted husband, loving father, and especially a grandfather.
Ray was most known for being a diehard Carolina Panthers fan. Everyone that knew him knew they could find him on Sunday after church watching the Panthers game. If you ever needed anything, just hope the Panthers were having a good game.
He is survived by his wife Karen Gelinas, his children Ashley Rogers (James Rogers), Raymond George Gelinas III (Shirley Gelinas), Alyssa Holland (DeAngelo Alexander), Kaylin Brewer (Tyler Brewer), his brother Rick Gelinas (Kirsten Gelinas) and sister Charlotte Jordan, as well as multiple nieces and nephews. He was a loving grandfather to his grandchildren, Bentley (6), Alorah (5), and Tatum (19 months). They meant more to him than words can say and gave him the strength to keep fighting.
My husband Ray was a friend to many and never met a stranger. He gave freely of himself and never hesitated to help anyone in need. We were best friends and soulmates for 25 years. He is my heart and forever love, today and always.
In lieu of flowers a donation to the ALS foundation would be appreciated. You can donate to the Charlotte, NC chapter or the chapter nearest you in his name.
We will be having a Celebration of Life on February 7th, 2026 from 2pm-4:30 at Amity Persbyterian Church, 2831 N. Sharon Amity Rd., Charlotte, NC 28205. Please feel free to join us for Ray’s celebration of life.
