Mrs. Rebecca (Becky) Spivey Brisson of Charlotte passed away Friday, July 6, 2018 at the age of 88. Services will be Monday July 9th at Forest Lawn West Funeral Home, Charlotte. Visitation will be 1:00 pm, followed by the funeral service at 2:00 pm. Burial to follow at Forest Lawn West Cemetary. Mrs. Brisson was born in Tabor City, NC on Feb. 8, 1930, daughter of the late Isaac Forney Spivey and Ethel Mills Spivey, and from age 9 daughter to Dora Yarborough Spivey. Becky graduated from Tabor City High school then attended Charlotte business school, where she met her husband, Anthony “Red” Brisson. They were married for 56 years until his passing in 2007. She is also preceded in death by her brother James Spivey, sister Lanelle Hardy, and Daughter Wendy Brisson Grayson. Becky was loved by her family. Children: Jack and Debbie Solesbee Brisson; Steve Brisson; Wendy Brisson Grayson and Paul Grayson; Barbie Brisson. Grandchildren: Melissa Brisson Elbert and Eric; Jamie and Kim Briggs; Amy Briggs Otwell and Chris; Elisha Brisson Polk and Jason; Jonathan Brisson and Lyndsay. Great grandchildren: Lydia, Henry, and Ann Louise Elbert; Brittany Briggs Bishop and Drew, Jacob Briggs, and Jayme Briggs; Emma and Kaleb Baron, and Alex, Jacob and Tyler Otwell; Jordan, Ever, and Landon Polk; Nora Brisson. Many special nieces and nephews. Becky was a longtime member of Thomasboro Baptist Church in Charlotte (now Mountain Lake Community Church), where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and served a period as church Secretary. Leisure passions were gardening, both indoor and outdoor, as well as multiple needle work disciplines. She created afghans, cross-stitch, and many other sewing projects for children, grands, and great grands. Although well used, most of these survive her. Becky, and husband Red were ardent Tarheel basketball fans, bordering on historians, making sure they passed this along to their family. One last note. Becky was a master of the “Hug” and this became part of who she was as a person. It has become quite evident that recipients fondly remember this trait and we feel it strongly defines her as a person. Memorials maybe sent to Hospice & Community Care of Rock Hill PO Box 993 Rock Hill, SC 29731. A special thanks to all the care team of White Oak of Rock Hill and Hospice.
