Rebecca was born in Apex, North Carolina on August 12, 1946 to Frank and Evelyn Sellers. She was a graduate from North Mecklenburg High School in 1963. She went on to graduate from Central Piedmont Community College with an Associate in Nursing in 1973. Later in 1994, she pursued a Bachelors in Nursing from the University of North Carolina in Wilmington and ultimately, in 1996, obtained a Masters in Nursing from East Carolina University. Rebecca worked at Eastern Airlines in Charlotte, North Carolina for many years during which time she forged many close friendships. After moving to Wilmington, North Carolina, she worked at Pender Memorial Hospital and later at New Hanover Regional Medical Center as a nurse.
Rebecca’s talents were many; she was an extremely accomplished seamstress and gardener. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend—always thinking of others first. She loved being around family, laughing, old movies, cooking, animals of all kinds, traveling, decorating for holidays, and doting on her puppies Teddy and Rosie. But most of all, she cherished being a Grandmother (Rebe) to her beloved grandson Nolan, who was the light of her life.
As a result of her generous spirit and vibrant personality, she was loved by many. Her life was as beautiful as the flowers she loved so much and her influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew her.
Her life will forever be cherished in the lives of her daughter and son-in-law, Drs. Annie Meares and Justin Peltola and grandson Nolan of Minneapolis, MN; husband, Robert Patchen of Charlotte NC; sisters, Donna (Frank) Hamilton of Midland, NC and Beth (Todd) Stegall of Marshville, NC; brother, Tommy (Annie Oakley) Sellers of Greenville, NC, and a host of devoted nieces, nephews and friends. She will never be forgotten.
A funeral service will be held in the Charlotte Chapel of McEwen Funeral Service at Sharon Memorial Park on Friday, September 9, 2016 at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Nathan Arledge officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Furry Friends Rescue Center; c/o Hi-C Farms; 2775 Ranger Rd.; Clover, SC 29710
