I am so saddened by Mary Alice's passing. She and I were at Salem at the same time (I was a year ahead), and we worked in the same division at Western Electric during the late seventies/early eighties. I always so admired her intelligence, wit, leadership skills, and friendly manner. She was a great person, well liked and well respected. Please know that you all are in my thoughts and prayers.

I was with Mary Alice at a Lenten retreat in 2011 with Julie Johnson, and had so looked forward to renewing our acquaintance again at Julie's next retreat. Justin, she could not have been prouder of you as a son and an adult; I have sons too, and we had fun conversations about raising boys. I value those memories of her. She was a seeker of wisdom and beauty, and in searching, she also found much joy, meaning, and richness in life.

I was one of her colleagues in Southport and loved her for her wonderful humor! We had breakfast together every Wednesday as a group of ministers/pastors. I will always remember those times together. She could always join in the conversation and the humor among us. She is missed as she was when she retired and moved away for us to be closer to family. May the Spirit envelop her spirit forever!

Mary Alice added so much to our church family at Providence! I had the pleasure of talking to her several times on the phone. She spoke to the Women of the Church last year about her journey to become an ordained minister and endeared herself to us. She will be missed at Providence. My prayers are for her family to have peace in the coming days and weeks.

Justin and family,
I loved your mum so much. I met you a few times while she was the pastor here at Southport Presbyterian. She was such an inspiration and mentor to me. I'm so sorry for your loss.

Justin and family, I called her "Dear Heart" because she had the biggest heart EVER! I was privileged to spend about a week with her at Duke during the transplant. I went to help her and she gave back to me, far more than I could tell ya! She left her footprints on my heart forever! Thank you God for placing her in my path of life! She loved us all at Southport Presbyterian just like we were her very BEST FRIEND! What a special lady and servant of God!! She will be missed by many. My prayers and deepest sympathy for you and your family and especially to her precious Riley, Kate Hampton and Allie! God be with you all in the coming weeks!

The world has lost a special person with the loss of Mary Alice. I can still see those eyes and that smile shining on me from the chair next to me in the band room at M and M High School. Pure of heart and spirit she has assumed a special place in heaven.
