Richard Claude Jordan (Dick), born August 17, 1934 in Charlotte, NC, son of Jack and Sarah Jordan, passed from this life on September 6th, 2018 into the arms of Jesus. He had a peaceful passing surrounded by his loved ones. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Lynda Teasley Jordan; his son Richard Jordan Jr. and his wife Deborah Jordan; son Randal Jordan; and daughter Crystal Jordan Carter, husband Heath Carter. Dick is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
His education included Accounting at King’s College, Sales and Marketing at Queens College and he finished his education at the University of South Carolina at Lancaster in Journalism.
Dick began his career in the Information Technology arena and worked in the industry for over 40 years. He started with J.P. Stevens & Co. in Charlotte, where he rose to project manager. Following that, he worked for Springs Industries, serving as a data processing coordinator and project manager. He was involved in the evolution of computers from mainframes to client server technology during his 18 years at Springs Industries. After some years of private consulting, Dick was a partner in a small candy business where he handled sales for the company.
On a personal level, Dick enjoyed playing golf and racquet ball, where he became a nationally ranked competition player in 1992. He was actively involved in ministering to the youth at Calvary Church, in Charlotte for 17 years and made a lasting impact on many individuals in the community. He also was a greeter at Calvary Church for many years, handing out lifesavers to all who entered. In 1999, Dick was awarded the “Unsung Hero” recognition for his service to Calvary Church. Additionally, in 2004, he was honored with the “WBT Hometown Hero” award for his acts of kindness in the community. Dick was a remarkable man who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
A graveside service will be held Monday, September 10, 2018 at Forest Lawn West Cemetery at 10:30am. The memorial service will be held Monday, September 10, 2018 at Calvary Church, 5801 Pineville-Matthews Rd, Charlotte, NC 28226 at 3pm.
