Richard honorably served our military in the Army at Fort Knox, Kentucky with the rank of Private, from March 1957 to March 1959. He went on to work at Winchester Surgical Supply Company as a Medical Salesman for many, many years until his retirement. Richard was a faithful member of South Gastonia Church of God for many, many years.
In his younger days, he enjoyed going to dance halls and cutting a rug. He was very good at dancing. He met a young lady there named Vi, and that turned into such a long term friendship for years to come. They talked often. He loved to tell of his travels overseas getting to visit Paris, London, Zurich, Amsterdam and Rome.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents, George and Velma, his brothers Leonard, Lewis, Gene, Bobby and his sisters Carol, Judy, Madeline, and Sue. He was a southern gentleman and he never met a stranger. He had such a kind heart and was always doing for other people. He adored his nephews Daniel and Noah, always bringing them cookies, candy or whatever he had.
Richard took ice skating lessons at Eastland Mall. He really enjoyed doing that. He was a native Charlottean who loved Bojangles country ham biscuits, Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, and going to Golden Corral to enjoy the kind of food he loved; good ole Southern cooking, such as chicken and dumplings, fried squash, and pinto beans.
He is survived by his niece Lisa, her husband Danny and sons Daniel and Noah as well as his brother Doug and his wife Jackie, and many nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Rest in peace dear one until we meet again. We love you always and forever.
